So…one of my professors suggested that all of her students make a video introducing themselves…and then keep a video diary through the year. And this is mine.
I'm Vivienne Thoms, but you can call me Viv…or Vivienne, whatever. I'm seventeen years old and I found out that I was a mutant six years ago. You know how you have those really scorching summers and the AC breaks? Well, when I was eleven, one of those summers hit and I was trying to beat the heat outside with my older sister, Coraline. My mom came out and gave us two cups of Sprite. I thought this was stupid. I wanted a popsicle. I glared at my cup and stuck my finger in it. That's when something amazing and scary happened…my Sprite started to freeze from my finger out to the edge. I got my popsicle.
Of course, Coraline and Mom didn't see this as a cool a thing as I did. They started to panic, telling me to pull out my finger, to tell them what I was doing to make it do that. I honestly didn't know how to answer them. It wasn't until six months later, after I had started to draw attention because of my lack of control, that there was a representative from Highwell to talk to my parents and myself about what exactly was going on with me. Only one month after that, I was being dropped off at Highwell.
I've been pretty quiet most of my years here. I don't really like touching people. I'm not germaphobic or anything…I'm just…I don't know if I have that much control over my mutation, even after six years of lessons, and, like, what if I accidentally freeze someone by shaking their hand? Anyway, yeah. I try to avoid getting in physical relationships. I have the occasional friend and I love hanging out in the student lounge, things are really nice here at Highwell. I've been spending summers here, too, well, you could say that I'm spending my summers at the lake. I really like the lake…but I'd have to say my favorite season is winter. I love winters up here in the mountains. That and I feel much more at home in the snow.
Boys? Oh, boys are great. I have a couple friends who are boys! No boyfriend, though. It all ties back to the whole "I don't like touching people" thing.
Anyway, well…my family doesn't exactly like me being a mutant. My dad thinks I have some sort of disease, my mom thinks I'm a freak, and Coraline is terrified of me for not being normal…like I'll freeze her to death or something. Well…that's their problem.
Otherwise, there isn't all that much more to me.
