She had her iPod earbuds in, and looked like she had completely blocked out the world around her. The pen in her right hand tapped in time against the thick book and her lips moved to form the words of an OK Go song.
She was completely okay with being alone that afternoon. And she was around other people, so it counted as interaction, right? Of course it did. And she would talk to someone if she needed help…probably, chances were she'd struggle with it until she figured it out, and if she did decide to get help, she'd probably get someone to pay attention to her by throwing her pen at them.
If she threw her pen at someone, they might not like that…maybe that wasn't the best strategy…
Viv sighed and ran a hand through her hair. She'd been working at this assignment for a while now, maybe she could take a break, go and get a soda or something. There was probably a frosty bottle of root beer with her name on it. And if it wasn't frosty yet, it would be once she had her way with it.
She set her book down on the ground and took the earbuds out, then stuffed them in her sweater pocket. After tossing her hair out of her face, she started toward the student kitchen. She scooted around a boy using his mutation to reach the cookies on the top shelf to get the the fridge, and once she was there, she opened it with little effort. Vivienne bent down to place her hand on the last bottle of root beer, and felt it chill even further in her hand as she pulled it out.
Her frame leaned against the counter as she opened the bottle and took a long sip from it. A contented sigh escaped her and she rested the bottle on the counter next to her. She glanced around the kitchen, searching for a familiar face, for someone she knew, maybe someone she didn't, and tried to get up the courage to seek out a conversation with someone, anyone.

Theo was getting tired of sitting in his dorm room. It was basically all he did lately, because he had no very little social interaction. He had been here for a few months, and had yet to make any friends. He had had friends back home in Chicago. Tons of them. Hell, he had been a social butterfly! ... Alright, that wasn't true. In all honesty, Theo was a pretty big nerd. As in, he had a whole wall back home dedicated to a bookshelf, and he'd read pretty much every single book on said shelf. As in, he got straight A's, and liked trolling the internet. It was weird, that his mutation was super strength. You'd think something like that would turn someone into an automatic jock. But not Theo.
Not that he didn't like playing sports sometimes. He had been in football in elementary school, and he had played soccer at recess with the rest of the kids. But sports just weren't all that fun for him. Reading was. Music was. He was a nerd, and he was proud of it. But he was getting tired of being by himself so much. There was only so much Skyping a guy could deal with, before he lost his will to live. He laughed at the not so funny joke, and got up from his bed. He stretched, and decided he'd head into the student kitchen. Seemed like a good idea. Food was nice.
As he entered the kitchen, he waved to everyone else, and was promptly ignored. Well then. He'd just get his food and go then. He frowned a bit, and went over to the cabinets. He opened several of them until he found a bag of Doritos, pulling them out and grinning widely. Alright, Doritos made up for the lack of human interaction he'd had since he got here. Opening the bag and moving so he could set it down on a counter, he looked over at a girl standing beside him, nursing a root beer.
"Hello. Nice day we're having, eh?" he asked, smiling and popping a cheesy chip into his mouth. The worst she could do was ignore him and walk away. It was worth the risk, he decided.

He couldn't be too much younger than her, maybe a year or two. He had a bag of Doritos. Her eyes glinted when she noticed the flavor on the bag. The cheesy kind.
She smiled back and ruffled her hair with one hand. To be honest, she was glad someone else had started the conversation. Even if the question was a little mundane, it was better than something creepy. Like "I lost my number, can I have yours?", which she'd gotten once at a beach party. Those questions made things awkward.
After taking a sip of her root beer, Vivienne tapped her fingers against her thigh and responded. "More eh than nice. I've been working on chemistry since classes ended. But outside I bet it's nice."
She almost kicked herself once the words were out of her mouth. She'd basically gotten to the weather in under two minutes. That probably made her seem awkward. Viv took another sip and rubbed the back of her neck.
She tried to recollect herself and managed to keep a cool expression, "Do I know you?"

Rex Tyler had not been in this school for mutants for very long. "HIGHWELL" is a normal school when it comes to studying, going to classes and other miscellaneous things. It is easy to forgot that this is a school for mutants and everyone here can do something. The classes almost seem like regular school, that was probably the intention. Rex didn't talk to very many of the other students.
Rex was not shy or anything, however, Rex thought most of the people including himself were still trying to get used to this school. Rex though it was strange at first to use his powers in a classroom setting. Rex was walking around the campus for a few minutes during the time in between classes and he happened to stumbled across the student lounge.
There were students scattered around the room but Rex was just in his own world and was focused on the student refrigerator. Rex almost didn't notice that there were two other students standing near it as he took a bottled water from it. Since he hadn't talked to anyone today Rex decided to at least try and talk to them a little bit.
"Hey there you two. Is it just me or is it weird that this school is so normal? My name is Rex, what about you two?"
Rex would talk to anyone even if he didn't know them. He didn't assume they were friends or anything, but it was easier just to walk up to people and start talking.

Theo smiled as the girl replied to him, and he nodded. "Ah, so I'm not the only one who has spent most of the day indoors? Nice to know. I'm Theo, by the way." he stated, sticking out his hand, but then remembering it was covered in cheese from the Doritos. "Oh, um, ignore that act of friendliness. The cheese is in the way." he stated, pulling his hand back and looking around for a napkin. Soon, another kid walked over to them. Theo shot him a glance, before introducing himself yet again.
"I'm purple. And I don't know. It seems like school to me." he said, shrugging and then looking back at the girl. She had asked if she knew him, and he set out thinking about it.
"No, I'm pretty sure you don't know me. But you know. Now you do. You already know my name, wouldn't it be nice to introduce yourself?" he asked, smiling at her and not-so-subtly brushing the cheese off of his hands onto his jeans. "Or I could just call you miss." he teased, smiling again and shoving his now clean hands into his pockets.
